We provided comprehensive initial study, design and construction management services for a complete revitalization of the historical center of Sacile, Italy.   We resolved the pedestrian access challenge to the central business and shopping area for this city of 20,000 by redistributing the vehicular and pedestrian access in the three main town squares in the heart of the city.  The $500 thousand project covered an area of 15 Acres worth of streets, parking lots and sidewalks.  In addition to repaving the main streets and replacing sidewalks, also included in the project were the addition of subsurface water and sewer pipelines.  We also added parking on the outskirts of Sacile to allow vehicular access while maintaining the town’s desire to have a central shopping area more open to pedestrian traffic.

Cimolai is an internationally known steel manufacturer with factories throughout Italy and the United Kingdom.  As they were consolidating some of their operations, they contacted AST to have a study done for re-zoning their factory area in Pordenone, Italy.  Our first tasking consisted of an initial project feasibility study.  After our presentation, we were asked to expand this to develop a re-use plan for the 23 acre parcel and to work with the local community government to have the land area re-zoned.  This work has now been completed, and we have just begun the design of a two story 100 thousand square foot shopping center and a 50 apartment, 7 building residential complex which will be constructed on the existing land. 

We were contacted directly by the city of Sacile to develop a solution for a 2 acre open space between the downtown area and the eastern residential part of the city.  We proposed a park with a concert gazebo situated along the banks of the river Livenza to provide a transition from the business area to the residential east side.  Our park is now a place where many gather to relax and sip a Cappuccino or enjoy a gelato during a Friday evening concert.  Featured in this 500 thousand Euro project were the talents of our landscape architects who followed the work throughout construction to make sure the city would be happy with the result.
